There is no better platform for a photographer than “a photography exhibition” to showcase his/her work and to share those special moments with other people that he experienced. When more than one photographers come together, then this thought becomes more real and achievable. Similarly, when a likeminded people of a group like Moments Shoot come together there is always a mission in hand! Mission Chaukat!
The idea was incepted by Nikhil Gaikwad, founder of Moments Shoot and our beloved friend and then there was no looking back. He shared the idea with some aspiring photographers and friends and everyone said “YES”. Everyone was excited, determined and pumped up at the same time to transform this idea into reality.
The first meeting to discuss the exhibition happened on 1st May 2014 at our favorite place on the earth, our very own “Shivaji Park”. All of us still remember the date, the place, the meeting, and even the entire discussion. Everyone was contributing his/her points and opinions, the motive and dream were only one, “to make our exhibition successful”.
On that day, about the exhibition, everything was planned, everything was decided, everyone was aware of his/her duties and responsibilities, everyone was so excited but there was a small concern, we haven’t yet finalized the identity of our exhibition, the name of our exhibition was not yet finalized. Though we have put a lot of names on the paper we couldn’t finalize “THE” name for our exhibition……
So here is tale is to tell you how did we finalize the name of our photography exhibition! “Chaukat…Imaginations Framed!”
As I said we met on 1st May 2014, we, Nikhil, Ameya, Ravi, Saurabh, Rupesh, Mugdha, Amar and Mandar we finalized everything accept the name for the exhibition. We were really tired as we were discussing the plans for at least 3 to 4 hours. It was a hot summer afternoon and the sun was burning on our heads like hell! But by god’s grace, it was 1st May and we knew that on 1st of every month there is a special offer on the flavor of the month in Gelato Ice-Cream Parlors. So we decided to cool ourselves with some delicious ice-creams. It was Mango delight! The flavor of the month in Gelato at Shivaji Park. Every one of us bought one scoop each and enjoying the ice cream with some stupid jokes and chatting. We finished off the first round and thought of having a second round, so we went ahead for it.
Still, the name was not finalized not even short-listed. While feasting on the second round of Mango Delight, from nowhere we heard a song on the radio at Gelato.
It was “Zara tasveer se tu nikal ke saamne aa, meri mehabooba….” From the film “Pardes” and suddenly one word strikes one of our minds, “Chaukat”. We jumped with the joy as we cracked the code…. the codename. In Marathi “Chaukat” means a frame or a boundary. It was certainly a EUREKA moment for us.
So, this is how we finalized our first half of the exhibition name but somehow we felt that it was incomplete. But it gave us a kick and we started to think again to complete the name. Then a new thought came in front of us when a photographer clicks any moment it’s not what is there in the reality, it’s the imagination of the photographer through his lenses that have been captured or framed….. So here we got the complete name of our exhibition.
“CHAUKAT…… IMAGINATIONS FRAMED!”
This is how, in a hot summer afternoon of May, we 7-8 crazy photographers indulging in a mind-blowing Mango Delight in a Gelato, at Shivaji Park, Mumbai finalized the name of our first-ever exhibition and really celebrated “Maharashtra Day”! Feels blissful, isn’t it???
